Why Should Women Learn Self Defense?
“1 out of every 6 women has been the victim of an attempted or completed rape in her lifetime (14.8% completed rape / 2.8% attemped rape)” – National Institute of Justice and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Prevalence, Incidence and Consequenses of Violence Against Women Survey. 1998
“Sexual assault is one of the most under reported crimes, with 60% still being left unreported” – U.S. Department of Justice. 2005 National Crime Victimization Study. 2005
What does all this Information Mean for You?
That YOU are the only person ultimately responsible for your own safety!
- Well, my husband/boyfriend/father/brother will protect me. I honestly believe that is true, but is he with you 24/7? Do you think a predator would rather attack you while you are with a companion or while you are alone? An attacker may stalk you first to figure out when you are alone.
- I’ll call the police. Another good tactic. But how long will it take for you to get your phone, call 9-1-1, explain to the operator your situation and location, and then the police response time to find you. Can you afford 5 minutes with one or more attackers? 10 minutes? Or do you need to take immediate action yourself to protect your safety?
- I’ll use my gun/pepper spray/taser/collapsable baton/knife, etc. Good. A self defense tool will certainly increase your chances of staying safe. But are you actively training properly with your tools? Do you know how to draw them in the middle of a violent encounter? Do you have the tenacity and ferocity to use them skillfully to protect your life?
Hopefully the above points have got you thinking critically and honestly about your own safety.
Now take the next step. Get proper training!
Women’s Self Defense Courses
What you will learn

- How to defend yourself inside the confines of a car in an anti-date rape scenario.
- Courses can be tailored to suit your group’s needs.
What this course is not
- You will not learn fancy, difficult to execute martial arts techniques that require years of practice. Instead, you will use your natural instincts so that only a minimum of practice is required to be effective.
- You will not be required to practice any scenario that makes you feel uncomfortable. This is your training! You will first practice the techniques with the other women in the course. Then, if you choose to, you will have the opportunity to try the techniques on male training partners. Your safety and comfort are our primary concerns.
